Preserving America's Farmland

I am trying to define myself as a photographer. I am looking for my niche. America's farmlands are in jeopardy not only because of the tough economics of farming, commercial development plays a big factor as well. Many of today's farmers are "land rich, cash poor." Their land is their retirement nest egg. They sell off their land to developers to survive after retirement. Maybe preserving this diminishing farmland, an important piece of American history, in photos is God's plan for me.......

The photo is beautiful, and I really like the idea of preserving by photography a diminishing (but vital) area of humanity. It's sad to see a farm that has been in a family for generations forced to sell for taxes. I think this is a wonderful calling. Keep it up!

Hi Tina! I just got back from Canaan. I'm pretty sure I seen that farm when we were there. It's in Maryland not far from Canaan. We drive up to an Amish Bakery when we are there. You did an amazing job capturing the beauty of that farm! It is surprising to see how many farms and land that is now being offered as subdivision developments are quickly moving in in that area.

Thanks Gail. It is very sad and it happens far too often.

Angela, Yes it is off 219 in the Mason School Road area of Garrett County. I'm not sure if this is an Amish farm but there are many in this area. I can't wait to see photos from your trip to Canaan!
